Preservation Hall Has Been Preserved

So, I was watching the news yesteday, to find out about the hurricane in the Gulf, as I have been for the past three days (I've been glued to the set actually) when I saw one of the news casters reporting from the French Quarter. "It's surprisingly intact," was the summation of the report. "A few bars have started to re-open."

Ok, so let me get this straight. You have a mighty hurricane that rips through the entire city, no actually STATE, category 4 and all, blowing off part of the roof of the Superdome, flooding over half the city, breaking levees and inundating parts with 15 feet walls of water, while, at the very same time, drinking on Bourbon Street stops for a FULL 24 HOURS. Wow. That was quite a storm. (It takes a lot to keep those folks from drinking, let me tell you.)

Actually, I think it's really good news that people have started to drink again. It's the first sign of "normal" in a place that, well, isn't on a good day.

Phew! I'm so glad the liquor's running again. For a moment there, I was actually frightened.

Until next Cat 5...
