Yes, Thanksgiving is about giving...Thanks, Janice!

Yes, Thanksgiving is about giving thanks and reflecting upon what we're thankful for.

As far as the holiday stuff, yes, we're pushing it up more and more each year. I swear it seems like it starts in September, doesn't it?

But, Black Friday and now Cyber Monday is a big shopping day regardless, since it's the day most of the stores have big sales. They also have "doorbuster" sales where you have to get there at like 3 am (I'm not exaggerating about the time!) because the sale lasts from 3-4 am (that sort of thing.) They give deeply discounted prices for a limited time and people go crazy. Last year, several people were killed in a stampede at a WalMart store in NY. It's that crazy.

Having the four days off from work is making me very happy!Carolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01631042606380970249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3285530.post-8174725019658012352010-11-26T02:43:50.482-06:002010-11-26T02:43:50.482-06:00Pleased you had a good day. I don't think I k...Pleased you had a good day. I don't think I knew about 'Black Friday', and am surprised the Christmas shopping season starts with only four weeks to go! I mean, it seems perfectly sensible to me personally, but Christmas advertisements have been on our TV since mid October, and decorations / gifts in the shops since about the same time!

As I said to you recently, it wasn't until reading Eat, Pray, Love, that I learned that Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what you're thankful for. Perhaps that sounds a little dense on my part - but what I mean is I thought it was a time to give thanks for the year's harvests. (We have 'harvest festival' for that reason in September.) Anyway, now I know the truth, and I think it's a beautiful tradition. I hope you're feeling very content (not to mention over-stuffed!) after reflecting on your lot!

Janice. xJanice / Dancing with Sunflowershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08646734271197959581noreply@blogger.com
