My New Hero

OJ, originally uploaded by carolsLittleWorld.

In case you have not heard the news, yesterday there was an international incident at JFK airport. According to reports, shortly after a JetBlue flight from Pittsburg taxied to stop at a terminal in JFK, Steven Slater, a flight attendant was struck in the head with luggage a passenger was trying to unload from an overhead compartment.

After being hit in the head, the passenger cursed Mr. Slater, who then demanded an apology and the two argued. Mr. Slater then got on the plane's PA system cursed at all of the passengers, grabbed two bears from the flight attendant's gallery, activated the inflatable emergency chute, and slide down the chute onto the tarmac. He was spotted running into the terminal and made he way to his car. They are reporting too that he was in "the midst of sexual intercourse" when police arrived at his residence in Queens to question him about the incident.

I think Steven Slater is my new hero. The only complaint I have is that he didn't chug one of the beers as he was sliding down the chute or maybe flip the bird back at the passengers watching. At least, I'm sure glad he stuck the landing.

I think he's really a genius who has come up with a better way of deplaning. "Two beers and down the chute." Go, Steven Slater, GO!

This now makes him the greatest airline folk hero since DB Cooper. And, even better, unlike DB (and my true love The Stig,) we actually know what he looks like so we can put his face on T-shirts across the land.

Oh, did I say, "land?" Um. Ooops. He never did make it to that pesky airport gate, did he?

Until next time...

Sorry, but I can't heroicize idiots, whether they be passengers, or attendants.

Well, he probably should not have pulled the chute, and should get a fine for that, but I don't think he deserves 7 years in the pokey. I think they are being a bit harsh on him.
